The Essex DA attended the RHS Spring Plant Fair at Hyde Hall on 22 and 23 April.

Due to the time of year, we decided to design our stand as a plant sale as well as the sale of the usual NVS merchandise and promotional items.

We had lots of different kinds of plants that had been started off by our members for sale on the stand – vegetables and flowers. These ranged from onion sets, kale, onions from seed, lettuces (red and green), tomatoes (over 10 different varieties – some of these being more unusual varieties that are relatively new on the market!) and purple sprouting broccoli. We also had all sorts of beans – runner, broad and french, herbs – moss curled and flat leaf parsley, leeks and a whole variety of cucurbits – pumpkins, squashes, courgettes and marrows.

It was another busy day on the Sunday and by the end of the day we had sold out of almost everything! Throughout the weekend we spoke to numerous people about their plots – from seasoned gardeners to brand new allotment holders.
