NVS 2020 Yellow Mimi Tomato and Falco Turnip "virtual" Growing Experience competition

As a result of the current lockdown in connection with the Coronavirus Covid 19 pandemic, most horticultural shows have now been cancelled, certainly up to mid/end September 2020. At the recent NVS Trustee Meeting (held as a conference call to stay safe), it was decided that some form of competition be organised to have some fun and to assist with feedback for our sponsors. It has been agreed that the competition will use the free Marshalls Yellow Mimi F1 Tomato seeds and D.T.Brown Falco F1 turnip seeds included with the NVS Spring 2020 Simply Vegetables magazine. It was further decided that rather than just grow show bench quality tomatoes and turnips, and in an attempt to encourage those members who do not normally compete in the prestigious shows as well as those who do not compete at all, that the competition would be all about the growing experience.

NVS National Championships 2021

As reported earlier, with the Dundee Food & Flower Festival 2020 having been cancelled so was our 2020 National Championships.

For your information, it had been unanimously agreed by the five Branch Chairs that we will plan to hold the National Championships for 2021 in Dundee.

(The National Championships will then continue in the usual order, e.g. with Wales hosting the Championships in 2022 and so on).

Mimi tomato - Marshall's special class - CANCELLED

Due to unforeseen circumstances caused by the Coronavirus outbreak, we have unfortunately been unable to include the free Mimi tomato seeds from Marshall's (as detailed in our member's Simply Vegetables Magazine, page 17). The seed was for our members to enjoy growing ands also, to have the chance to compete at local branch Competitions around the Country. The specific Marshall's Mimi Class will now not take place this year at any Branch show).

Update: Further to our announcement that advised our members would not receive the free Mimi seed in their April Simply Vegetables Magazine, there was a distribution problem which resulted in some members actually receiving the free seed.

For those members who did, we do hope that those members who are still safely able to grow vegetables during this time of great uncertainty, that you to provide feedback and send photos of your growing season and results to let us and Marshalls know how you got on.

Likewise, for those growing the free Falco turnip seed from DT Brown, we encourage you to provide feedback for these too. Thankyou.
